Why am I Always Sad? Focus on internal peace, not external pleasure.

The biggest social norm says that pleasure IS indulging.

This is ironic, because indulging usually involves not strengthening your mind and body, and usually debilitating you in some small way, frequently over time.

You’re also told that you should indulge as much as possible while you’re young.

Although this will hinder your health for the long-term as I just said, worsen your grades in college and therefore lead to most likely a less optimal career in the future.

And the worst part… you’ll be setting the foundations of what kind of individual you are.

This is not happiness.

But that’s obvious hehe, isn’t it?

One more thing: * clears throat *

“Travel while you’re young!

Horrible advice man, you can travel while you’re older too as long as you stay healthy and do yoga.

I’ll link a video by Nathaniel Drew in description regarding inexpensive and minimalistic travel.

If you indulge heaps while you’re young, you’re not setting the foundations for your future-self to be financially well-off. Like learning and getting into business. Beyond that though, you’ll literally worsen your performance in your studies, or in your job. You’ll also be debilitating your own health physically, spiritually and mentally, which is exactly how NOT to enjoy life, plus it’ll determine the kind of person that you are in the future. PLUS, as for the study or work performance drop, it’ll impact how well you do and therefore your career progression and probably your quality of life.

This won’t necessarily ruin you, but it WILL halt you in growing past a certain point, or completely stop you from reaching the peak of your potential. It’s hard to know for sure, though, because all of our lives are different. I just think that LOTS of people will find themselves more stuck in the future, because they didn’t do the right work while young.

Also, travelling while young is valid, but still possible even as you get older as long as you keep up things like yoga, eating habits, sleeping habits, regular doctor-checkups, etc. It also doesn’t need to be crazy expensive if you do it for longer periods of time, or are more minimalistic about it. How to truly enjoy life. Not indulging.

Basically, “living while you’re young” should actually be perceived as becoming a god.

My definition of pleasure is being able to look at myself in the mirror, in the eyes, and fucken smile more genuinely than I've ever smiled before. To be proud of the man that I am, how hard I've pushed myself to be uncomfortable and to make changes even when it was difficult and felt completely unnatural. To have the best connections with people from all backgrounds, because you're free of judgement and truly understand the value of learning from other people, and offering your own insight to them as well. Pleasure is knowing that I need to rely on nothing, and on no-one, to be happy. All I need, even if the world was falling apart and buildings were crumbling to the ground, is my own mind and my own body. No dependence on alcohol, or certain foods, or things to be "just right" or friends to be by my side, or support. Nothing's needed. Because at the end of the day, all you've got is you. So pleasure, is being one with yourself, and existing at your own maximum capacity.

You can make spirituality and religion a more significant part of your life. You can meditate. You can start the journey of compound interest by feeding your body properly as soon as possible. You can start to become a better version of yourself, who attracts people who’re more aligned with who you are, and who you’ll connect with immensely. This, indeed, will contribute to your happiness. This, indeed, is real pleasure.

It was easier just to give you my personal example. Although our definition’s won’t be the same, they’ll have one main similarity: Pleasure is not reaching out for external desire, rather it’s conjuring growth from deep within.

That’s it!

Decide now, that you’ll focus on identity and internal peace, rather than fixating on external pleasures. Repeat after me, “I’m so glad, that I understand how powerful my early life is, in setting the foundations for my future, whether it be in personal growth, spirituality, my career or my connections. Unfortunately, many people seem to think that the best things in life are partying, junk food, short-term and unfulfilling sexual relationships, shallow friendships and imbedding bad spending habits into their own heads. This isn’t the way. Now, time to forge my fucken life from the ground up”.
