How to Channel Mental Illness into an Advantage
How to channel mental illness AND EMOTIONS as much as possible.
Choosing what your thoughts are in response to certain emotions.
Controlling your emotions I guess?
1) Channel mental illness by looking at how good life could be if you overcame it, and how bad it could be if you went downhill because of it.
Except that when I say “overcome”, I mean that you use the downhill potential, any side-effects of that condition (like obsessive productivity with OCD) and the idea of being the kind of person TO overcome that condition, to DRIVE you forward.
Downhill potential to push you.
Side-effects of your condition assist you.
And the idea of being the kind of individual who can thrive in some way, despite dealing with certain issues, pulling you forward.
2) Channeling emotions:
What are emotions? Sequences of hormones released in the body automatically, in response to a stimulus. We give these sequences names, based on the following thoughts and actions often associated with them.
What’s channeling? Controlling something in a way that we believe might produce a particular outcome.
How do you control emotions in a way that produces a particular outcome? Since the emotions are only classified as something, based on the thoughts and actions that follow them, we need to control these two things.
How do we control thoughts and actions? Be aware of the thoughts, first of all. And perhaps to live slowly enough, that we become aware of the actions before we perform them, if the action isn’t immediately performed on reflex.
How do you be aware of thoughts? Living in the present, and not focused on what caused the emotion that preceded the thought.
How do you remain unaware of thoughts? By living in the past or in the future, and by focusing on what caused the emotion that preceded the thought.
How do you not focus on what caused the emotion? Walk away/create distance from the cause.
How do you create distance in a violent encounter? Create distance while keeping focus on the target, ironically, until it’s safe enough to drop focus and continue creating distance.
How do you live in the present? Be calm and understand that such a thing benefits you in controlling the thoughts and actions that proceed emotions, which means that you’re able to respond consciously to anything the world throws at you.
How do you be calm? Meditate, focus on one task at a time, and understand that it’s impossible to know whether anything that happens is good or bad, therefore you shouldn’t try and conclude that something is definitely one or the other.
The breakdown above, you can screenshot to include in the video, so that you only need to speak about the ultimate and practical conclusion.
3) What about positive emotions?
Enjoy them.
