Good Morning!
“Work-life balance” directly implies that work is a chore and provides no other benefit, and that joy only comes from doing nothing purposeful. It also causes something awful…
People are in a constant state of enduring suffering and anticipating suffering.
If work sucks, you’ll be suffering into you get off.
Then you’re recovering, anticipating how much it’ll suck to be working or studying again.
What’re some Ways to Make Studying Fun? | Purpose, Active Recall and Value Activities
Purpose
Interesting ways of studying that’re also effective, e.g. flashcards/active recall creatively. Teaching.
Like I discussed in last week’s video, teaching is one of the most effective ways to learn. It can release oxytocin if you do it with friends and family. It can be made fun, like talking to inanimate objects or trees, or just to yourself like an actor around the streets or around your room. I did that last one a lot.
Brainstorm for 5 mins at beginning of day, what you’re gonna spend time on after each work segment. These things will serve as delayed gratification.
How to come up with things that actually add to your day and aren’t JUST consuming:
Ask, what do I value today?
Brainstorm ideas for each value and break each idea down.
What can I do to embody ANY of these things… right now?
MAKE THESE IT.
Value love? An idea could be reading a book and fully sitting in the fact that there’s a PERSON who spent years creating this thing that they love. Or highlighting things in it that stand out to you.
Do different things that you come up with for upwards of 15 mins between each study session, yup, that’s it. Any longer, and you wouldn’t appreciate it as much, sweetheart.
What’re the Benefits of a “Work-Life Balance”? | Incentive, Flow State and Faster Learning
More incentive to do it.
More flow state because you stop for less amounts of time and learn to get at least an hour done all at once.
These together make you retain all of the information more quickly.
Which helps you progress in learning faster than other people that you know.
Teaches you to like learning and slowly conditions your mind, as long as you understand that this is possible, to see learning potential in everything in life.
Become the kind of person that seeks adventure in life for all of the knowledge that it brings.
And with this knowledge, you grow in wisdom by understanding how things and the world works.
Ultimately less focus on work-life balance, because work, life and fun can all be INEXTRICABLY connected.
Less stress, appreciation for hard work as it helps you and appreciation for how “relaxation time” can actually help you learn as well, rather than to recover from a drainage of energy.
Is Work-Life Balance a Myth? | Yes and No, it Must be Redefined.
Relationships
Yes bullshit. If you fully work with the person that you love as a work-life balance, either as a romantic partner or as a friend, you can grow too close.
If you balance too much, the different stimuli separates you.
Fun
Yes bullshit. Work-life balance directly implies that work is bad and is purely a chore that can’t and should never be done too much. When it’s actually an incredible opportunity to learn absolutely TONS of shit about life and the world, just as the rest of your life should be directed at doing that.
How to Balance “Work and Play” | Value Activities, Fun Study Techniques and Constant Learning
To study, use fun study techniques with your Value breaks in between that only last for 15 mins max.
You shouldn’t think of work as to be balanced, you should be doing work that teaches you things that bring you closer to your purpose and to upholding your personal values.
Do this by not allowing yourself to settle when something doesn’t feel tolerable; not in a job, not with a certain group of people, not in a particular career.
Find your purpose and look into what your values currently are. Download this resource that I made and fill out the questions to discover what feels like your purpose, within 3 days to one week.
That’s it!
