Burgers and Bourbon - a Celebratory Mother’s Day

Ah my friends! Welcome. Last weekend was Mother’s Day, (I hope you all provided a gift or elicited joy), however I decided my box of Maltesers was not going to cut it. I did eat most of them -

Anyway, after my recent 18th bday - my mother was aching to take me to restaurant and bar, ‘His Boy Elroy’. Undeniably so, it had to be done.

Thus, on the following Saturday, we go. Strutting up to this bewildering locale, gleaming letters - E-L-R-O-Y - enticed me further than I already was. I’d been told the burgers were bussin’. We are greeted by a marvellous young lady (very likely older than I) and sat down on two stools right at the bar. Before us, is this magnificent decor of the available drinks; stacked in rows under a highly-illuminated semi-circular ornament right out of a movie set. We scan the convenient little QR code and gawk at the menu.

I’d never seen anything like it - I’d also only ever been in a bar once - there were cocktails of every colour, scrumptious bailey’s mixes and most importantly - Straight Kentucky Reserve Bourbon. Very cheeky.

I first order a Ginger, Chivas Regal, egg-white mix. I believe there was more stuff, but you know - who knows. Thy Mother chose wisely, although I don’t know what she picked. That is no way at fault to memory loss, I just wasn’t paying attention - I have great memory.

After a refreshing, apparently pineapple-tinted Wayward Pilsner and a half-glass of Kentucky Reserve Bourbon with ice, I was happily finished. Not to mention the burger I got - The Cobber - with its deep-fried pineapple fritter and additional chips was great too.

Mother and I walked past the graffiti pig on the wall and out to the street. Walking through the middle of an overly-busy intersection, we stop to look for Uber rides. A debatable choice. Mum points out the cab parked at the lights behind us. We wave at him as we approach, but the man freaks out. Nothing to fear however, the light was just about to go green while we were standing in the intersection. We hop in and tell this man our suburb. and before we know it - he knows exactly what our address it. Oh well, efficiency, right?

My man Bobby takes us home, daps me up after learning it was my second night out being 18 and we say our farewells. We end the night with ‘Polar’, a horror/action film starring Hannibal actor, Mads Mikkelsen, and eat popcorn.
